NATCHITOCHES, La. – Houston Christian volleyball continued its hot start in Southland Conference play with a decisive 3–0 sweep of Northwestern State on Saturday at Prather Coliseum. The Huskies captured the sets 25–20, 25–16, 25–23, moving to 7–8 overall and 2–0 in Southland action.
From the outset, HCU set the tone with a balanced offensive attack and strong defensive presence. The Huskies totaled 38 kills, 34 assists, 41 digs, and 8 blocks across the match. Junior
Allana Archie led the team with 8 kills and added 2 blocks, while
Peyton Fadal dished out 26 assists and added 8 kills of her own.
Bianca Byerly anchored the back row with 12 digs and contributed 2 aces, helping to fuel HCU's momentum.
Hannah Redrow,
Chloe Richards, and
Jade Smith combined for 6 total blocks to disrupt the Demons' attack and keep HCU in control at the net.
Northwestern State struggled to find consistency, led by Elsie Sanchez Oliver with 9 kills and Makenna Tryon with 5. Jade Longlad contributed 4 aces and Reagan Hamm recorded 16 assists, but the Demons could not overcome Houston Christian's efficiency in attack (.213 hitting percentage) and defensive coverage.
The first set saw HCU take an early lead, using a mix of kills from Archie and Fadal to pull ahead 25–20. The second set showcased the Huskies' dominance, with kills from multiple players and
strong serving giving HCU a 25–16 win. The final set was closely contested, but clutch kills from Archie, Fadal, and Melgren secured the 25–23 victory and the sweep.
The Huskies will return home to Sharp Gym on Thursday, Oct. 2, to face McNeese at 6:30 p.m., aiming to continue their undefeated run in Southland Conference play.
