NORMAN, Okla. – HBU men's golf earns 18Birdies All-Academic Team honors for the 2017-18 season announced by the Golf Coaches Association.
The Huskies GPA was led by seniors
Guillaume Chalancon and
Val Almendarez.
Almendarez, a Southland Conference All-Academic Second Team selection, registered a 3.70 GPA in Business Management, while averaging 74.94 on the season. He helped the team to a fifth place finish at the Southland Conference Championship, as he tied for 30th with 10-over par 239. The San Antonio, Texas native has two top-20 finishes and two top-10 finishes. Almendarez also recorded an individual low of 68 in the first round of the FAU Spring Championship on March 23, 2018.
Chalancon participated in nine rounds for the Huskies and generated a 78.33 stroke average, while obtaining the team's highest GPA, 3.92. The Paris, France native shot a low round 70 in the first round of the Atchafalaya Intercollegiate on Feb. 19. He went on to finish tied for 12
th with a total 9-over par 225.
To be eligible for GCAA All-Academic Team honors a college or university must submit the GPAs for each player on its official squad list for the academic year.
