WGOLF: Huskies Sit Seventh After Day One at Zach Johnson Invitational

Freshman Julian Worrell leads HCU heading into Tuesday’s final round at Glen Oaks

DES MOINES, Iowa – Houston Christian men's golf wrapped up the first two rounds of play at the Zach Johnson Invitational on Monday, finishing the day in seventh place at 26-over par. The Huskies sit just one shot behind sixth-place Drake heading into Tuesday's final round at Glen Oaks Country Club.

Freshman Julian Worrell delivered a strong opening day, leading the Huskies with back-to-back rounds of 72. Worrell played consistent golf across both rounds, carding a total of 2-over par to put himself in 11th place individually. His steady play in his collegiate debut has him within reach of a top-10 finish with one round left.

Junior Brooks Pawlak also had a steady performance, finishing the day at 3-over par. Pawlak opened with a strong front nine in the first round, including a birdie to turn at 2-under, and closed his afternoon round with a 35 on the front side of Glen Oaks. He currently sits tied for 15th, giving the Huskies two players inside the top 20.

John "Cooper" Camp posted rounds of 74 and 77 to finish at 9-over par, good for 36th place. Camp opened the day with a solid 74 that featured a clean stretch on the back nine, but ran into trouble with a few late bogeys in his afternoon round. He will look to rebound and climb the leaderboard in Tuesday's final 18 holes.

Senior Carter Patterson bounced back in round two after a tough start to the tournament. Patterson opened with a 79 in the morning but regrouped to post a 75 in the afternoon, finishing the day at 12-over par in 46th place. His second round featured steadier play, highlighted by an early birdie to keep momentum on his side.

Fellow senior Mason Napier closed out the lineup, ending the day at 17-over par. Napier shot 80 in the opening round before improving to 79 in the afternoon session, sitting in 57th place. He will aim to lower his score further in Tuesday's closing round.

As a team, the Huskies posted an opening-round 299 (+11) and followed with a 303 (+15) in the afternoon session. HCU enters Tuesday just five strokes out of the top five in a competitive 10-team field.

The Huskies will begin final-round play with a 9 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday. Tee times are as follows:

Julian Worrell – Hole 10
Brooks Pawlak – Hole 11
John "Cooper" Camp – Hole 12
Carter Patterson – Hole 13
Mason Napier – Hole 14

The 54-hole event will conclude Tuesday with 18 holes at Glen Oaks Country Club.
