CONWAY, Arkansas – HBU's
Matthew McCollough tossed a complete game in a 3-1 victory in the first game, then Central Arkansas' Cody Davenport went the distance in a 5-0 win as the teams split a doubleheader in the Southland Conference series Sunday at Bear Stadium.
McCollough (4-1) allowed one run on six hits with 10 stikeouts and no walks on 118 pitches. With his seventh punchout, he recorded his 200
th career strikeout.
Senior leftfield
Spencer Halloran went 1-for-4 with a double and drove in a pair, while junior designated hitter
Anthony Jones went 2-for-4 with a home run and scored twice for the Huskies (14-18, 7-5 SLC). Junior catcher
Erik Voller went 2-for-4.
Tanner Wiley (2-1) also posted a complete game for the Bears (18-13, 10-5), allowing three runs on eight hits with eight strikeouts and one walk on 130 pitches.
Keaton Presley went 2-for-4 and Tyler Smith accounted for UCA's lone run with a solo home run.
Halloran ripped a two-run double to center in the top of the third, scoring Jones and junior second baseman
Derek Reilly and putting HBU ahead 2-0.
Smith hit a solo shot to right in the bottom of the fourth, but Jones answered with a solo blast to left to lead off the fifth for the final tally of the game.
In the second game, Davenport (3-1) shut HBU out on one hit with seven strikeouts and no walks on 105 pitches.
Junior righthander
Brady Batten (2-4) took the loss for the Huskies, allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits with three strikeouts and two walks in 4.1 innings.
Senior first baseman
Jake Pulcheon had the only hit for HBU.
Rigo Aguilar went 3-for-4 with a double, drove in two runs and scored, while Keaton Presley went 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles, an RBI and a run for UCA. Josh Somdecerff singled and scored twice.
The Huskies return to action when they host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in a non-conference matchup Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Husky Field.
