HOUSTON – HBU softball begins Southland Conference play with a three-game series against Nicholls Friday and Saturday at Husky Field. The Legacy Sports Network audio broadcast with Bill Cousins is available at HBUHuskies.com.
The season opener begins Friday with the first game set at 1 p.m. and the second to follow at 3 p.m. Saturday consists of one game beginning at 12 p.m.
The Huskies (2-8) are led by Senior
Nicole Shedd, who averages .346 at the plate with three doubles, four RBIs, and two runs scored. Junior
Demi Janak follows with a .286 batting average with a homerun, 6 RBIs and two runs scored. Freshman
Sierra Humphrey leads the team with seven runs scored, while sophomore
Heidi Jaquez leads with eight RBIs.
Freshman
Jessica Patak (1-4) has appeared in eight games with six starts with a 4.89 ERA and one save, while freshman
Elliott Estes (1-0) has a 5.73 ERA in 11.0 innings.
Amanda Gianelloni leads the Colonels (11-7) with a .373 batting average with four doubles, two triples, three homeruns, 15 RBIs and five runs scored. Kasey Frederick leads with 13 runs scored and six doubles.
Nicholls' Megan Landry has a 7-3 record and a 2.10 ERA in 12 appearances and nine starts.Alexis LaBrue (2-3) has a 3.45 ERA in 44.2 innings and Amanda Holliday (2-1) has a 2.66 ERA in 23.2 innings.
Nicholls leads the all-time series over HBU, 2-11.
HBU will step out of SLC play to take on Marist College Wednesday, March 14 at 1 p.m. and Eastern Kentucky the same day at 3 p.m.
