SB: HCU drops both ends of twin-bill to Lamar

Huskies close season with "Senior Day" matinee in Head Coach Mary-Ellen Hall's final game

HOUSTON --- Houston Christian University dropped both ends of a twi-night doubleheader on Friday, falling 4-1 and 6-1 to Lamar University at Husky Field.

HCU goes to 10-36 overall and 7-19 in the Southland on the campaign. The Huskies will now close their season on Saturday, when they host the Cardinals in the series finale, a "Senior Day" matinee beginning at noon.

The Huskies will honor six outgoing student-athletes (Christin Haygood, Karlie Barba, Chloe Foster, Addy Prasifka, Maddy Bailey and Breana Herrera) with a ceremony shortly following the game. The season finale also marks the final game for Head Coach Mary-Ellen Hall, who is retiring after an illustrious 35-year career on Beechnut Street.

GAME 1

Lamar jumped out in front early, getting a one-out solo homer from Isabella Flores to right center. Two more came across in the second inning, as three of the first four batters reached on singles, the final by Gracee Hess that drove in a run. Flores then lofted a sacrifice fly to left to put LU up 3-0.

Sicily Windham had an RBI single in the fifth to push the lead to four. HCU finally got on the board in the seventh on an RBI single by Tayden Alexander and had two on but couldn't scrape anything more across.

Jade Moreno had two hits for the Huskies with five others getting a single knock, including the pinch-hit RBI single by Alexander. Cara Pitman took the loss, going three innings before Addy Prasifka went the final four.

Roxy Thompson went 2-3 and Isabella Flores drove in two runs to back the complete game effort of Reagan Smith, who allowed seven hits with four K's to move to 12-5 on the year.

GAME 2

HCU would get on the scoreboard with the game's first tally in the first inning on an RBI single by Maddy Bailey, but would leave the bags juiced.

In the third, Lamar took the lead with a pair of runs, as Roxy Thompson scored on a wild pitch and Gracee Hess scored on fielder's choice. The Cardinals would tack on four more over the final four innings to pull away for the sweep.

Jade Moreno had a second straight two-hit game. Maddy Bailey went 1-3 with an RBI and Raenna Liscano went 1-2 with a run scored. Leah Hammack went the distance in defeat, allowing four earned runs while striking out three.

Ava Prejean (5-3) went the distance for the Cardinals (30-21 / 16-10 SLC) allowing seven hits and one run.  Gracee Hess went 3-4 for Lamar while Cimara-lei Wessling, Makenzie Wright and Riley Whitley each had two hits.
