Senior 3B/OF Spencer Halloran goes 3-for-5 with a double, RBI



HOUSTON – Lamar rallied for five runs over the final three innings for a 6-4 victory over HBU to salvage the Southland Conference series finale Saturday afternoon at Husky Field.
 
Senior third baseman/outfielder Spencer Halloran went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI, while senior rightfielder Matt Heck went 2-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and scored a run. Junior second baseman Derek Reilly was 1-for-2, walked twice and scored twice for the Huskies (11-17, 5-4 SLC).
 
Junior righthander Brady Batten took a no-decision, allowing two runs on five hits with seven strikeouts and two walks in six innings. Heck allowed two runs, one earned, while junior JT Newton (1-4) took the loss, giving up two runs on four hits in two innings.
 
Robin Adames went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs and Cole Girouard went 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored a run for the Cardinals (6-22, 2-10). Grant DeVore singled and scored twice.
 
Taylor Rich (1-1) picked up the win, holding HBU scoreless over the final 1.1 innings, while starter Taylor Blanchard took a no-decision, giving up two runs on five hits with four strikeouts and one walk in 4.1 innings.
 
The Cardinals jumped out to an early lead as DeVore singled in the first and came home on Adames' RBI double to rightcenter. The Huskies tied it up in the third when Reilly singled, Halloran doubled, then Heck delivered an RBI groundout.
 
In the fifth, Halloran gave the Huskies the lead with an RBI single to center. The Cardinals tied the game in the seventh when Logan LeJuene was hit by a pitch, was replaced by pinch-runner Tyrese Clayborne, who stole second, then Girouard later laid down an RBI bunt single.
 
HBU answered in the seventh with Heck's RBI double off the wall in right, followed by an RBI single by senior first baseman Jake Pulcheon for a 4-2 lead.
 
Heck hit the first batters in the eighth, then Adames hit an RBI single to left and the second runner came around to score to tie the game, 4-4. Adames tried to score the go-ahead run on a wild pinch, but was tagged out at the plate.
 
Girouard led off the ninth with a single, then Chad McKinney laid down a bunt single and an error on the play moved Girouard to third. Girouard scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch, then Cole Coker added an RBI single.
 
The Huskies wrap up their five-game homestand against UT Rio Grande Valley Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Husky Field. The YouTube video broadcast with Russ Reneau begins with the pregame show 10 minutes prior to the first pitch and is available on HBUHuskies.com.
