NASHVILLE, Tenn. – HBU will wrap up its non-conference schedule on Wednesday evening against SEC member Vanderbilt at 6:00 p.m. Husky fans can watch the game live via WatchESPN and the SEC Network+ or listen to the action via the Legacy Sports Network audio broadcast with Lonnie King, available at HBUHuskies.com.
Wednesday's game will mark the fifth of the season for the Huskies (4-8) against a team from a "Power Five" conference or the Big East. Vanderbilt (3-7) has lost three-straight games, including its last two at home.
HBU currently boasts three underclassmen averaging at least 10 points per game with freshman
David Caraher scoring 14.4 ppg, freshman
Ian DuBose averaging 11.3 ppg and sophomore
Jalon Gates adding 10.8 ppg. Senior
Josh Ibarra, who has missed the last two games, still leads the team at 16 points and 10 rebounds per outing, giving the Huskies four players overall averaging double-figures. Junior
Braxton Bonds isn't far from joining them at 9.1 ppg.
In the Huskies' last outing at No. 2 Michigan State, they pulled down 24 offensive rebounds while getting out-rebounded by four in the loss. HBU now leads the nation in offensive boards with an average of 16.5 offensive rebounds per game. Gates led HBU with 17 points against the Spartans, connecting on 5-of-10 from the field, 3-of-6 from three and 4-of-4 at the free throw line.
For the Commodores, a trio of seniors leads the way. Jeff Roberson is tops on the team with 13.5 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. The 6-6 forward has posted five double-doubles in 10 games. Riley LaChance, a 6-2 guard, is averaging 11.3 ppg and 6-5 Matthew Fisher-Davis is adding 10.9 ppg. Vanderbilt is averaging 68.2 points per game while allowing opponents to score 72. HBU, meanwhile, 81.8 points with opponents scoring 84.4 per game.
HBU will enjoy more than a week off before opening Southland Conference play on Thursday, Dec.28, against Lamar at the Montagne Center in Beaumont, Texas at 7:00 p.m.
