Biography
2016-17 (Sophomore): Named to NABC Honors Court…started 30 games in his first season at HBU while appearing in all 31 games, averaging 31.3 minutes per game…averaged 9.7 points, five rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.87 steals per game…was fourth on the team in scoring and led the team in assists and steals…averaged 10.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.22 steals in Southland Conference play…his assist/turnover ratio of 1.91 was the best in the SLC and his 1.87 steals per game average was 48th in the nation…scored a career-high 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting, 6-of-7 at the free throw line, against Incarnate Word (2/4)…recorded 12 points, a career-high 12 rebounds and matched a career-high with seven assists in the Huskies’ CIT game at Campbell (3/14)…dished out seven assists on three occasions, at Campbell (3/14), against Arlington Baptist (12/17) and Randall (2/18)…recorded a career-high six assists twice, at Stephen F. Austin (12/31) at New Orleans (1/19)…scored 18 points against Sam Houston State (2/16).
Prior to HBU: Spent the 2015-16 season under head coach Winston Neal at Columbia State…as a redshirt freshman, finished fourth in the country with 4.1 steals per game and garnered first team all-conference honors…helped team to a 20-8 overall record, averaging 14.6 points, 6.8 rebounds and 5.8 assists per contest across 25 starts…spent the 2014-15 season as a redshirt due to NCAA guidelines under head coach Donnie Tyndall at Tennessee…was a key member of the Volunteers' practice squad…originally committed to Liberty, but transferred to UT after attending summer classes.
High School: A four-year letterwinner and three-year starter under head coach Drew Maddux at Christ Presbyterian Academy in Nashville…rated 247Sports.com's No. 8 overall prospect in the state of Tennessee for the Class of 2014…helped lead the Lions to Class 2A state championships in 2012 and 2013, three district championships, three regional titles and three sectional crowns…CPA posted a four-year record of 137-12 during prep campaign, including a 94-game win streak in the process…averaged 15.3 points, 7.8 assists and 3.5 steals as a senior, 11.4 points, 5.1 assists and 3.1 steals as a junior, and 4.8 points and 4.6 rebounds as a sophomore…also played football and track, and was a member of the National Honor Society.
Personal: Full name is Braxton Lee Bonds…born March 23, 1995 in Tampa, Florida…son of Bobby and Tracie Bonds…father played 11 seasons of professional minor league baseball…has three brothers, Trey, Peyton and Mason Bonds, and one sister, Caitlin Stone…is the nephew of seven-time National League MVP Barry Bonds, Major League Baseball's all-time career leader for both home runs (762) and walks (2,558).
