STILLWATER, Okla. – HBU dropped its Sunday afternoon matchup with Oklahoma State in Gallagher-Iba Arena by a score of 101-74.
An early three by
David Caraher put the Huskies (1-5) up 3-2 but seven-straight from Oklahoma State (5-1) made it a 9-3 game just over two minutes in. A pair of
Ian DuBose free throws pulled HBU within two but the Cowboys got out to a 20-12 lead with 11:46 on the clock. The Huskies worked their way back to 20-19 after a
Will Gates Jr. layup in traffic with 9:06 to go.
Five-straight points from Thomas Dziagwa put OSU up 25-19 but
Oliver Lynch-Daniels knocked down a jumper from just inside the arc to keep it a four-point game. The Cowboys then took advantage of 17 free throw attempts, knocking down all but one, over the final 7:32 of the first half to pull away and take a 52-30 lead into halftime. Oklahoma State was sent to the line 25 times on 15 HBU fouls in the first half while eight OSU fouls sent the Huskies to the line for just three attempts.
Josh Ibarra came out and hit his first three shots of the second half, pulling HBU within 18, 58-40, at the 17:13 mark. OSU pulled away the rest of the way and led by at least 20 over the final 16 minutes.
Jalon Gates scored 13 points in the second half to lead HBU in scoring, finishing with 13 on 4-of-8 shooting, including 3-of-6 from three-point range. Ibarra finished a rebound shy of a double-double, totaling 11 points and nine boards. DuBose added 11 while Caraher finished with 10.
Braxton Bonds ended the day with five points, five assists and four rebounds.
The Huskies were out-rebounded 43-35 but held a 13-12 advantage in offensive rebounds. HBU also held a slight advantage in turnovers, forcing 17 while committing 15. HBU shots 39.4 percent (26-of-66) for the game while OSU connected at a 48.4 percent (30-of-62) clip.
The Huskies will return home after four straight away from Sharp Gym to host Dallas Christian on Tuesday, Nov. 28, evening. Prior to the start of Tuesday's game, HBU will be inducting legendary HBU coach Gene Iba into the University's Hall of Honor. Iba coached at HBU from 1977-85 and took the Huskies to their first ever NCAA Tournament during the 1983-84 season.
