HOUSTON – The HBU men's basketball team rode a double-double from senior center
Josh Ibarra and shot 60 percent from the field to blow past Dallas Christian, 96-66, on Tuesday evening in Sharp Gym.
Ibarra was 11-of-14 shooting the ball and a perfect 2-of-2 at the free throw line to finish the night with 24 points while grabbing 10 rebounds for his third double-double of the season. He also added five assists and five blocked shots, bringing him to 123 deflections for his career and moving him up two spots to fourth on the HBU (2-5) all-time record list.
Junior
Braxton Bonds ended the night with 15 points, connecting on 7-of-10 from the floor, to go along with six steals which matched a career-high. Freshman
Ian DuBose had 12 points for the Huskies while fellow frosh
David Caraher set a new career-best with 10 assists to go along with six points.
Will Gates Jr. added eight points while
Philip McKenzie grabbed six rebounds for a new career-best and added six points.
Oliver Lynch-Daniels finished with seven points and five assists while
Jalon Gates scored six and
Edward Hardt and
Tyquon Jordan added five.
The Huskies got out to an early 10-5 lead on a dunk by DuBose but Dallas Christian (3-5) nailed four three-pointers in less than three minutes and got out to a 17-12 lead with 12:34 left in the first half. The Crusaders maintained their lead, though they never got up by more than five and after leading 26-22 with 6:48 to go in the half, HBU closed out the first period by out-scoring DCC 29-11 to lead 51-37 at halftime.
A jumper by Dexter Dean got Dallas Christian within 13 but the Huskies responded with six-straight points to go up by 19. At the 14:11 mark, leading by 14, HBU went on a 12-0 run capped by a Bonds layup with 9:32 on the clock and a 26-point lead. The Huskies got up by as many as 38 before finishing at 96-66.
Keldon Williams led Dallas Christian with 14 points while Hunter Bennett added 12 and Trey Lindsey and Dean both contributed 10.
HBU remains at home for its next game, a matchup with the Bobcats of Texas State at Sharp Gym on Saturday, Dec. 2, at 7:00 p.m. The Huskies defeated the Bobcats the last time the two teams met at Sharp Gym, 88-81, during the 2010-11 season.
