NASHVILLE, Tenn. – In a game in which HBU took its largest lead of five with just 15 seconds left, that lead was erased in 14 seconds as Detroit Mercy's Jermaine Jackson Jr. knocked down two threes in the final 10 seconds to tie the game and send it to overtime where the Titans pulled away to down the Huskies, 116-109, on Sunday afternoon inside the Curb Event Center.

Will Gates Jr. put HBU (1-3) up 6-5 just over two minutes in and the Huskies wouldn't regain the lead until the 4:05 mark late in the first half. Detroit Mercy (2-2) raced out to a 20-12 lead through seven minutes of the game and pushed that to nine with 11:15 remaining in the first half. A pair of back-to-back threes by
Jalon Gates gave the Huskies a lead with the second making it 41-39 with 3:51 remaining. The Titans then closed out the half out-scoring HBU 16-7 to head into the break ahead 55-48.
The Huskies opened the second half strong, cutting into the Titan lead in a hurry and regaining the lead, 61-60, after a pair of
David Caraher free throws at the 14:42 mark. The lead would bounce back and forth for most of the second half with Detroit Mercy taking a three-point lead less than a minute later before bouncing back to a three-point HBU lead with 10:16 on the clock after another Gates three.
Corey Allen, who led all players with 39 points, hit a trey with 6:41 to go to give the Titans a five-point lead. HBU would claw back to tie the game three more times in the next four and a half minutes before taking back the lead on a
Josh Ibarra layup at the 1:07 mark.
Ian DuBose was sent to the line three times over the ensuing 42 seconds, making three of his six attempts and giving the Huskies a 94-89 lead with 15 seconds on the clock. Jackson knocked down a three with 10 seconds to go to make it a two-point game. The Titans then fouled
Oliver Lynch-Daniels with 7 seconds remaining and Lynch-Daniels made one of two, giving HBU a three-point lead. Jackson drove down the floor and hit a three with one second on the clock to send the game to overtime.
In overtime, Allen nailed a three just 17 seconds in to make it 98-95.
Braxton Bonds made a layup with just under four seconds to go to get within one but the Huskies wouldn't get any closer. Detroit Mercy pulled away and made 10-of-11 free throws in the extra five minutes to keep the Huskies from getting any closer.
Ibarra led HBU with his second double-double in as many days and set a new career-high of 31 points scored to go along with 13 rebounds. The senior finished 12-of-16 from the field and was 7-of-12 at the free throw line. He was selected to the 2K Classic Sub Regional All-Tournament Team after averaging 23 points and 12.5 rebounds over the weekend. Gates also set a new career-best or the second day in a row, pouring in 18 thanks to 5-of-11 shooting from beyond the arc and going a perfect 3-of-3 at the charity stripe.
DuBose also picked up the first double-double of his career, finishing the game with 17 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and a pair of steals. Bonds set a new career-high with eight assists while also scoring a season-best 19 points to go along with four rebounds and three steals. Caraher added 11 points, eight rebounds and three assists while Gates Jr. had 10 points.
Allen led Detroit Mercy and all players with 39 points, connecting on 12-of-20 from the floor and 7-of-13 from three. Kameron Chatman had 22 points and 16 rebounds.
HBU finished the game shooting 45.5 percent (35-of-77) from the floor, 29.2 percent (7-of-24) from three and 66.7 percent (23-of-48) from the free throw line. The Huskies held a 50-49 edge on the boards, including 14 offensive rebounds in the second half and overtime.
