HAMMOND, Louisiana – Southeastern Louisiana had 17 hits in the first game, then 13 more in the second to sweep HBU in a doubleheader, 18-2 and 13-3, to complete the series sweep Saturday night at Pat Kennelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
The two teams completed the first inning of the first game, then were delayed five hours, 43 minutes by rain. The two games were completed just before midnight.
Senior shortstop
Louie Payetta had the only hit for the Huskies (19-22, 9-12 SLC) in the first game, a double down the leftfield line. Senior second baseman
Justin Monsour drove in a run, while freshman infielder
Kendrick Holmes and junior centerfielder
Zane Otten scored.
Jameson Fisher went 3-for-5 with a triple, a grand slam and eight RBIs in the first game for the league-leading Lions (31-13, 18-3). Daniel Midyett went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and drove in three, while Jacob Seward went 3-for-3 and scored three times. Carson Crites homered and drove in three.
Mac Sceroler (8-2) took a no-hitter into the eighth for SELA, but allowed a run on a hit with nine strikeouts and five walks in 7.2 innings.
Junior righthander
Addison Russ (6-4) took the loss for HBU, giving up seven runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and five walks in 6.1 innings.
In the second game, senior first baseman
Andrew Alvarez went 1-for-2 with a double and scored a run, while junior catcher
Blake Thomas and senior designated hitter
Josh Leonhardt each drove in runs for the Huskies.
Webb Bobo went 3-for-3 with a home run and drove in three runs for the Lions, hitting back-to-back solo shots with Drew Avans in the third. Fisher, Crites and Taylor Schwaner each had two hits and an RBI for SELA.
Domenick Carlini (5-1) earned the win, allowing three runs, one earned, with five strikeouts and two walks in six innings.
Redshirt freshman righthander
Zach Carter (1-3) allowed 10 runs, eight earned, on 10 hits with three strikeouts and three walks in 4.1 innings.
The Huskies return for a four-game homestand this week, beginning with a non-conference matchup against Texas Southern Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Husky Field.
