Game Notes

EDINBURG, Texas - HBU continues its current five-game road stretch at the Al Ogletree Classic, where it will face Washington State Friday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at noon and host UT Rio Grande Valley Saturday at 7 p.m. at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. The Legacy Sports Network broadcast with Russ Reneau will begin 15 minutes prior to each first pitch and can be accessed through HBUHuskies.com.

The Huskies (3-2) will send senior lefthander Matthew McCollough to the mound Friday, followed by junior righthanders Addison Russ Saturday and Julian Griego Sunday. All three recorded wins against Binghamton last weekend, with McCollough striking out a career-high 11 and Russ and Griego each going seven innings in their HBU debuts.

Junior catcher Blake Thomas leads HBU with a .412 batting average and three extra-base hits, while senior first baseman Andrew Alvarez and senior shortstop Louie Payetta have each hit safely in all five games. Payetta enters the weekend with an eight-game hitting streak, while Alvarez has reached safely in 15 straight. Junior rightfielder Brandon Brintz has reached safely in all five games, is tied with Alvarez for the team lead with five RBIs and leads the Huskies with six runs.

Washington State (1-3) dropped 3-of-4 at Texas State over the weekend and will likely send lefty Damon Jones (Friday) and righty Ryan Ward (Sunday) to hill against the Huskies. Trek Stemp leads the Cougars with a .333 batting average, while Cameron Frost has a team-leading five RBIs. UTRGV (0-4) was swept by Abilene Christian on opening weekend and will likely throw righthander Ryan Jackson Saturday against HBU. Austin Douglas is hitting .333 with a home run and two RBIs to lead the Vaqueros.

HBU returns to action when it faces No. 4 Texas A&M Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. at Blue Bell Park in College Station, Texas. The game will be televised on SEC Network+ and the LSN audio broadcast will begin at 6:20.
