HOUSTON – Fresh off a promising start to the season, the HBU men's and women's cross country teams remain home to compete in the Rice Invitational Friday. The women's race is set to begin at 6:15 pm, with the men's meet following.
The races will be held on the Rice campus. Exit from US 59 onto Greenbriar. Go south to Rice Blvd. and turn left. From Rice Blvd., turn left at S. Shepherd Drive onto Entrance #17. Parking is free and located in "West Lot #4." To get there, continue from the Rice Blvd. Entrance #17 and look for the parking lot with the raised "arms."
Sophomore
Carlos Arias will look to continue where he left off in last week's Season Opener, as he became the first Husky in two seasons to win a race, finishing the 5k in 15:44.51. Along with Arias, HBU had four Huskies finish in the Top 10, as juniors
Jeremy Lewis,
Juan Fraga, and
Oscar Garcia went 6-7-8. Both Arias and Fraga ran unattached.
On the women's side, senior
Gabriela Busquet recorded the third Top 10 finish of her career with a seventh-place finish in the 2k in a time of 12.39. Sophomore
Lauren Stockton just missed the Top 10 as she placed 11th with a 13.04 clocking.
The men's meet will feature a three-team race with HBU, Rice, and McNeese State. The women's race has 11 teams: HBU, Houston, Incarnate Word, Lamar, Louisiana, Prairie View A&M, Rice, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas A&M International, Texas Southern, and UT-Rio Grande Valley.
Following the meet, HBU will compete in the Texas A&M Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 9 am.
