LAKE CHARLES, La.
-– The HCU men edged out McNeese by two points to earn the McNeese Cowboy Stampede title while the women's team placed third overall on Saturday.
In the men's four-mile race, senior
Raphael Aureau and junior
Colby Kurtz came in together with Aureau finishing in 19:47.3 and Kurtz clocking in at 19:47.3 to earn four and five points, respectively.
Leandre Lahalle came in two spots behind his teammates with a time of 19:59.8 with
Alejandro Rosales crossing in 20:13.8 for nine points.
Jaxson Artisst set a new PR with a time of 20:29.7 for 13 points. HCU's point total of 38 among its top-five runners gave the Huskies a two-point win over the host Cowboys.
For the women,
Destiny Quintanilla placed fifth overall in the 5k with a time of 17:50.7.
Reyes Carrera, a freshman, posted a time of 18:14.4 in her second-career collegiate race to finish eighth.
Jazlynn Estrada and
Jazlynn Garza finished back-to-back with PR marks of 19:19.8 and 19:20.3, respectively. HCU's fifth scoring runner,
Noelle Huijser, recorded a new PR time of 19:39.8. The HCU women placed third with a total of 67 points.
The Huskies will next run at the Dallas Baptist Old Glory Gallop on Oct. 11 in Fort Worth, Texas.
