-– The HCU women's cross country team posted a seventh-place finish while the men came in eighth at the 2025 Southland Conference Cross Country Championships, hosted by Northwestern State, on Friday morning.
HCU was led by senior
Destiny Quintanilla, who placed 16
th overall in the women's 6k race with a time of 22:00.18. After Quintanilla, freshman
Reyes Carrera came in 33
rd with a time of 22:51.04.
Jazlynn Garza and
Jazlynn Estrada crossed the finish line back-to-back in 46
th and 47
th places with times of 23:19.09 and 23:22.11, respectively.
Cara Gary, a sophomore, was the Huskies' final scoring runner and finished with a time of 23:35.59 in 53
rd place.
In the 8k men's race, senior
Leandre Lahalle ran a PR time of 24:09.54 to finish in 25
th place. Junior
Colby Kurtz crossed two spots back, in 27
th, with a PR mark of 24:11.05. Next for HCU was senior
Raphael Aureau, crossing the finish line in 24:54.09 to place 43
rd overall.
Jaxson Artisst posted a PR time of 25:33.40 while
Gavin Almaguer finished in 26:07.59.
The HCU women totaled 187 points to finish seventh in the team standings while the men took eighth place with 199 points.
