-– HCU's men's and women's cross country teams both placed third with seniors
Raphael Aureau and
Destiny Quintanilla leading the way at the Huskies' season-opening meet across town at the Rice Invitational.
In the women's 4,000 meters, Quintanilla raced to a PR time of 14:58.8 to place seventh overall, improving on her previous best time of 15:21.0. Freshman
Reyes Carrera came in two spots behind Quintanilla, in ninth, with a time of 15:10.0 in her first collegiate race. Junior
Jazlynn Estrada crossed the finish line in 16:00.1, improving her PR by more than 19 seconds and finishing 15
th while sophomore
Noelle Huijser came in 20
th overall, finishing in 16:22.4.
Emilee Schneider placed 27
th, posting a time of 17:31.7.
For the men in their 5,200-meter race, Aureau posted a time of 16:17.0 to take sixth place. Two spots behind him, junior
Colby Kurtz recorded a time of 16:24.4 in eighth place while senior
Leandre Lahalle finished in 11
th place with a mark of 16:31.0. Freshman
Gavin Almaguer finished next for the Huskies, crossing the finish line in 16:51.9 in 21
st place, with junior Jaxon Artisst taking 25
th with a time of 16:59.5.
HCU makes the trip to Lake Charles, La. in two weeks for the McNeese Cowboy Stampede on the morning of Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Enos Derbonne Multi-Sport Complex.
