Live ResultsAUSTIN -- Running his second-fastest time ever on the biggest stage for a collegiate athlete,
Christian Guzman clocked 14.28 in the 110 hurdles Friday to finish sixth in his heat and 36th overall at the NCAA West Preliminary Round meet at the University of Texas.
Guzman, who set a school record of 14.19 a week ago at Greensboro, N.C., clipped the sixth hurdle and that likely cost him another HBU record. The sophomore, who was one of the nation's leading punters for the Husky football team last fall, would have needed a huge lifetime best to advance to the quarterfinals, as the 24th-place time was 13.99.
With Guzman's exit, HBU ended the 2015 track and field season, the most successful yet since the program was reinstated in 2007-08. In addition to the all-time high of three Huskies qualifying for the NCAA postseason, the squad also had its first Southland Conference champion as
Taylor Thomas won the indoor title at Birmingham in February.
