BirdieFireBASTROP, Texas – The HBU men's golf team carded a 16-over 304 in the third and final round to finish 13th in the Jim West Intercollegiate at the Wolfdancer Golf Club on Tuesday.
The Huskies finished the tournament, hosted by Texas State, with a 44-over 908 (308-296-304) on the par 72, 7,205-yard course.
Senior
Preston Stanley (75-74-72) recorded the top finish for HBU, tying for 29th in the 80-player field with a five-over 221. The native of Katy, Texas, turned in par on his third trip around the course to improve his placing by 10 spots. Stanley's 72 was one of two scored by the Huskies across three rounds, joining junior
Isaiah Huerta (79-72-74 – 225), who did so in his second round. The two also shared the team lead in par-four (+6) and par-five scoring (-2).
Huerta rounded out the top 50 in a two-way tie for 49th at 225 (+9), shooting a 74 in his final round and collecting nine birdies across 54 holes.
Seniors
Trey Cassity (78-74-79) and
Andy Ariens (78-76-79) both fired 79's in their final rounds to finish within two strokes of each other. Cassity took 61st outright with a 231 (+15), while Ariens tied for 66th at 233 (+17). Cassity led the team with 38 pars, finishing fourth in the field in the respective category.
Senior
Brandon Wilhide (77-80-81), who had the team's lone eagle, shot an 81 to round out the scorecard in 77th at 238 (+22).
Saint Mary's won the tournament with an 858 total, followed by Sam Houston State (859), Stephen F. Austin (867), Arkansas-Little Rock (876), Texas-Arlington (876), Oral Roberts (881), Louisiana-Monroe (881), Wichita State (882), Texas State (882), Florida Gulf Coast (886), Rice (886), Central Arkansas (894), HBU (908), Texas-Pan American (917) and Abilene Christian (920).
The Huskies will next compete at the Reveille Challenge in Brian, Texas, on Sunday, April 12. A one-day event, the tournament will mark the final tuneup for HBU before taking part in the 2015 Southland Conference Golf Championship at the Stonebridge Ranch Country Club in McKinney, Texas, across April 20-22.
