THIBODAUX, Louisiana - HBU hits the road for a pivotal three-game Southland Conference series against Nicholls Friday through Sunday at Ray E. Didier Field. The Huskies enter the series in sixth place in the standings, a game in front of the Colonels, and only a game out of third.
Senior centerfielder
Zach Nehrir sets the table for the HBU offense in the leadoff spot, ranking third in the league with a .355 batting average and second with 37 RBIs. Senior catcher
Samm Wiggins is hitting .338, second in the league with 14 doubles, to go along with a team-leading four home runs and 22 RBIs.
The Huskies (22-20, 12-9 SLC) will send to the mound junior lefthander
Matthew McCollough, who has a 7-2 record, 2.77 ERA, 50 walks and 13 strikeouts in 78.0 innings, as well as senior righthanders
Taylor Wright (6-5, 2.84 ERA) and
Curtis Jones (4-5, 3.69 ERA).
Kyle Reese leads Nicholls (25-16-1, 11-10) with a .340 batting average, 13 doubles, three triples, a home run and 23 RBIs, while Tanner Vandevere is hitting .279 with five doubles, five triples and 20 RBIs.
The Colonels boast the league's top pitching staff with a 2.50 team ERA. Justin Sinibaldi is 8-1 with a 1.38 ERA, 47 strikeouts and 16 walks in 65.1 innings. Grant Borne is 4-4 with a 1.49 ERA with 66 strikeouts, and Ryan Deemes is 4-2 with a 2.24 ERA and 54 strikeouts. Stuart Holmes is 2-1 with a 1.40 ERA and 13 saves.
