Jaivairia Bacote won her section of the women's 400-meter hurdles and smashed the HBU school record Thursday at the 88th Texas Relays, clocking 61.19 to take down the previous record of 62.02 set in 2012 by Candace Montgomery. Bacote's time placed her 22nd overall in a field of 75 that featured athletes from many of the nation's top track and field programs.
HBU's men finished ninth in the 4x800 relay, as a team of

Daniel Shelton,
Orlando Garcia and
Jeremy Lewis ran 7:46.97 to beat Baylor and Southland Conference foes Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Incarnate Word, among others. In the men's 400H,Â
Christian Guzman set a season best of 54.80, while
Jarell McFarland recorded a lifetime-best 55.57.
Senior
Carolyn McClanahan capped off the evening with a 12th-place effort in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:35.50.
The Huskies return to the track at Mike A. Myers Stadium Friday at 9:30 with the 4x100 relay heats, followed by the 100H/110H and 4x400 prelims.
