Preston Stanley and junior
Isaiah Huerta both carded par in their third and final round, as the HBU men's golf team finished 15th with a 24-over 888 in the loaded field at the Lone Star Invitational on Tuesday.
The Huskies (304-284-300) shot a 12-over 300 in the team's final round on the par 72, 7,247-yard course.
Stanley (75-70-72) paced HBU throughout the 16-team tournament field that included three national ranked teams in No. 6 Texas Tech (1st), No. 34 Ohio State (7th) and No. 38 Southeastern Louisiana (2nd), finishing in a seven-way tie for 31st at one-over 217. The native of Katy, Texas, co-led the tournament as one of two in the 88-player field with 41 pars over 56 holes. Stanley also led the team in par-five scoring, shooting three-under, while tying freshman
Raul Hernandez at even on par-three's.
Huerta (78-69-72) was two strokes off the pace of Stanley, tying for 41st at 219. He carded the lowest round for the Huskies in the tournament, turning in a career-best 69 (-3) in the second round. Huerta also led the team with 12 birdies.
Senior
Andy Ariens (76-74-76) and Hernandez (75-72-80) finished within one stroke of each other at 226 and 227, respectfully. Ariens shot a 76 in his final round to claim a share of 70th, while Hernandez hit an 80 to tie for 73rd.
Senior
Brandon Wilhide (80-73-81) rounded out the team card with an 81 in his final round to take 84th overall at 234.
HBU will be back in action at the Jim West Intercollegiate, running April 6-7 at the Wolfdancer Golf Club in Bastrop, Texas. Texas State will host the tournament.
