Sugar Land Memorial ParkSUGAR LAND, Texas – The HBU men's and women's cross country teams welcome seven other schools as the ninth-annual HBU Invitational kicks off with the freshman boys division at 3 p.m. followed by the high school races at 4 p.m. The collegiate races begin at 5 p.m. for the women and 5:30 p.m. for the men.
The invitational will be held at Sugar Land Memorial Park, located at 15300 University Blvd. The women will race three miles while the men will cover four. Other teams competing include Houston, Prairie View A&M, Rice, Southern, Tec de Monterrey, Texas A&M, and Texas Southern. A&M and UH are in the South Central Region with the Huskies, ranked fourth and seventh, respectively.
The men remain 11th in the South Central region, the highest ranking in the history of the program. They are led by sophomore
Carlos Arias, who finished 30th overall in the Texas A&M Invitational two weeks ago and has paced the Huskies in all three races so far this season. Junior
Oscar Garcia has improved in each race this year, starting off with a fourth-place team finish in the Season Opener and placing second on the squad in College Station. Junior
Enrique Perez went from a seventh-place team finish in the Season Opener to placing second at the Rice Invitational one week later on Sept. 11. He finished fourth at A&M.
Senior
Gabriela Busquet has led the women in all three races this season and had a Top-10 overall finish in the Season Opener Sept. 3. Graduate student
Emily Dunn finished second on the team in her first race as a Husky in the Rice Invitational Sept. 11, while sophomore
Lauren Stockton has been a mainstay for the Huskies, with a second-place team finish in the Season Opener and back-to-back third-place finishes at Rice and A&M.
