HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The HBU men's and women's cross country teams compete for Southland Conference championships Friday from Huntsville's Country Campus Golf Course.

The women kick things off with the 6k at 9 a.m. followed by the men's 8k at 10 a.m. An awards presentation will immediately follow. The race was originally scheduled at Kate Barr-Ross Park, but last weekend's rain, followed by a high school championship on Monday, deemed the course unusable.

HBU will look towards the leadership of senior Gabriela Busquet and Carlos Arias, who have consistently led their respective squads this season. Busquet has led the women in every race, with a season-best third-place finish at the HBU Invitational Oct. 9. Her best time in the three-mile was at the Alabama Crimson Classic, where she was clocked at 19:03.78. Arias has led the men in all but one race. He became the first runner in two seasons – and one of 18 runners in the conference – to win an individual race, as he earned the individual title at the Season Opener Sept. 3.

In last year's SLC championships in Natchitoches, La., Busquet took 21st overall to lead the women to an eighth-place finish, while Juan Fraga placed 16th overall to help the men take seventh.
