Garrison Fick broke two of his own HBU records and two other Huskies also established new school bests Saturday on the second day of the Howie Ryan Invitational at the University of Houston's Yeoman Fieldhouse.
Fick scored 4,585 points to place ninth and added 122 points to his previous school record in the heptathlon. In the sixth event, Fick cleared 3.60m/11-9.75 to better his HBU pole vault record. He also ran 9.19 for a lifetime best in the 60 hurdles to open the day.
Freshman
Daniel Shelton clipped .20 off the 800 record he set two weeks ago, clocking 1:55.50 to finish second overall, and
Christian Guzman zipped to an 8.27 in the 60 hurdles to take down the previous best of 8.33 by Gabe O'Neale in 2011.
Running a season best of 2:15.23,
Kierstin Santana finished fourth in the women's 800, and she came back later to record the fastest split on the Huskies 4x400 relay that had a season-best 3:54.62 in sixth. On that relay she teamed up with
Jazmine Warden,
Roneisha Webb and freshman
Gbemisola Orundami. The HBU "B" squad ended up eighth at 3:58.66.
HBU heads to Birmingham, Alabama, on Feb. 16-17 for the Southland Conference indoor championships at the CrossPlex.
