ResultsMAGNOLIA, Texas – The HBU women's golf team keeps seventh place following the final round Thursday of the Southland Conference Championship at 6,258-yard, par-72 High Meadow Ranch Golf Club.
Junior
Rachel Mulkey shot a second straight 78 in round three, where she was 1-over par in the last nine holes. Mulkey finished tied for 15
th place with 233. Senior
Christina Cantu fired a 76 which was a team best for the day and the championship. Cantu started in 30
th place, but climbed the rankings to tie for 21
st, only two strokes behind Mulkey. Senior
Katie Paxton carded a 77 to finish with 236, tying for 23
rd place. Junior
Caitlyn Cassity scored an 81, tying for 25
th place with 238.
Brook Johnston shot an 80, tying for 34
th place with 241.
Lamar shot a day best of 301 to total 904, keeping first place after the final round. Oral Roberts totaled 302, and kept second place with 910. Central Arkansas maintained third place with a round three of 308 to total ten strokes behind ORU. Sam Houston finished in fourth with a total of 928, just two strokes ahead of fifth place Stephen F. Austin. Houston Baptist finished 7
th, eleven strokes behind SFA.
Central Arkansas's Sarah Brown fired a championship best round of 3-under par-69, propelling her to first place with 219. Oral Roberts' Shinwoo Lee shot a 75 falling to second place, only one stroke behind Brown. Stephen F. Austin's Piper Kyle and Sam Houston's Paige Nelson are tied for third with 224. Lamar's Kelly Erasmus shot a 76, totaling 225 to finish in fifth place.
This was the final competition for seniors Cantu and Paxton. The Huskies return Mulkey who led the team in scoring average, as well and Cassity, Johnston and
Charlotte Hartshorn. They will be joined by signees Aries Ramirez and Susan Hagger.
