AUSTIN, Tx — The Houston Christian women's golf team tied for 12th at the Betsy Rawls Invitational, finishing the two-day event with a team score of +86 at The University of Texas Golf Club. The Huskies posted rounds of +49 and +37 in a strong 16-team field that featured several nationally-ranked programs.
Host Texas, ranked No. 7 nationally, won the team title at +17, while Arkansas finished second at +32 and LSU placed third at +37. Oklahoma finished fourth at +42, followed by Pepperdine in fifth at +44. HCU tied with Harvard for 12th place in the final standings.
Natcha Makmanee paced the Huskies, finishing tied for 17th overall at +10. Makmanee opened the tournament with a first-round 77 and followed with another 77 in the second round to give HCU its top individual finish of the event.
Hailey Hendershott finished 59th at +23 after rounds of 84 and 83.
Sara Pihlajamaki and
Alejandra Ferrer each tied for 76th at +29. Pihlajamaki carded rounds of 92 and 77, bouncing back with one of HCU's better second rounds, while Ferrer
finished with rounds of 86 and 87.
Alyssa Stewart placed 79th overall at +30 with rounds of 90 and 84.
The Huskies opened the tournament with a +49 team round and improved by 12 strokes in the second round, carding a +37 to close the event. HCU finished ahead of Chattanooga, Troy and Incarnate Word while competing against one of the deepest fields on its spring schedule.
