Sophomore G Rob Lewis leads Huskies with 10 points.



CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – HBU couldn't overcome a cold shooting night as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi claimed a 65-45 victory over the Huskies in Southland Conference basketball Saturday night at American Bank Center.
 
Sophomore guard Rob Lewis led HBU (6-23, 2-14 SLC) with 10 points, while junior guard Marcel Smith and sophomore forward Cody Joyce each had eight. Sophomore guard Caleb Crayton led the Huskies with nine rebounds.
 
John Jordan had 22 points for TAMU-CC (15-14, 12-4), while Joy Williamson scored 11 and Rashawn Thomas had 10 off the bench. Zane Knowles led the Islanders on the glass with 17 rebounds.
 
The Islanders shot 43 percent, 3-for-9 from 3-point range, and 16-for-28 from the free throw line. The Huskies shot only 30 percent 5-for-16 from long distance and 8-for-23 from the line. TAMU-CC outrebounded HBU, 51-38.
 
TAMU-CC shot 45 percent, 3-of-5 from 3-point range and 9-for-14 from the free throw line in the first half as they jumped out to an 8-0 lead and held HBU scoreless for the first 4:30. The Huskies shot 28 percent from the field, 2-for-9 from behind the arc and also 2-for-9 from the stripe. HBU turned the ball over 13 times and were outrebounded, 22-20, in the opening frame.
 
The Islanders took a 51-30 lead in the second half, and while the Huskies held them scoreless for 5:18, they were only able to cut the deficit to 13.
 
HBU will be at home for its final two games of the season against Nicholls State on March 6 and McNeese State on March 8. Be sure to join the Huskies next Saturday as they will honor the 30th anniversary of the 1983-84 basketball team's NCAA Tournament appearance.
