Biography

2013-14 (Junior): Russell appeared in 29 games and started 13…ranked third on the team in scoring, averaging 8.3 points and adding 2.5 rebounds per game, shooting 41.3 percent from the field, 35.4 percent from 3-point range and 76.1 percent from the free-throw line, while adding 35 assists and 16 steals…scored in double figures nine times, including a pair of 20-point efforts…scored a season-high 22 points, shooting 8-for-13 from the field, including 4-for-6 from behind the arc, and grabbed a season-high seven rebounds against UT Arlington (12/14)…scored 21 points, had six rebounds and hit the game-winning three-point play at the buzzer in an overtime win at Army (11/30)…had 19 points in the season-opener at Texas Tech (11/8)…scored 16 points off the bench and nailed the game-winner at the buzzer in a win over Northwestern State (1/11)…followed up with 16 points at Nicholls (1/16)…dished out a season-high four assists at Michigan (12/7).
 
2012-13 (Sophomore): Started the first 15 games of the season, before suffering a knee injury and missing the last 16 games of the season…was second on the team with 11.4 points per game and also averaged 2.5 rebounds and dished out 39 assists…scored in double figures nine times, including a pair of 20-point efforts…scored 16 points at Hawai’I (11/12)…poured in 20 points against Dallas Christian (11/17)…scored 12 points at Oregon (12/22) and 15 points at LSU (12/28)…poured in a career-high 24 points on 8-of-16 shooting, including 4-for-6 from 3-point range, and added five assists against Army (12/31)…had seven points and four assists in the first half at Texas A&M (1/3), before being injured.
 
2011-12 (Freshman): Named to the Great West Conference All-Newcomer Team…appeared in 29 games, including 18 starts, and averaged 24.4 minutes per game in his first season…led all Great West Conference freshmen in scoring with 11.6 points per game and averaged 3.4 rebounds per game…shot 42.2 percent from the field, leading the team in field goals made (130) and attempted (308)…shot 80.0 percent from the free-throw line…ranked third on the team with 55 assists…led the team with 19 double-digit scoring efforts, including four with 20 or more…scored a season-high 22 points on 11-of-23 shooting against Ecclesia (2/11)…poured in 21 points on 10-of-14 shooting against NJIT (2/18)…scored 20 and pulled down six rebounds against Cal State Fullerton (11/20)…also scored 20 against Rice (11/30)…scored 14 points and sent the game into overtime with a jumper at the buzzer in regulation in the Huskies’ first win of the season, 76-74, over Bethune-Cookman (11/14)…scored 19 points against Santa Clara (12/21)…led the Huskies with 17 points and added six rebounds in the season finale against NJIT at the Great West Conference Tournament (3/8)…grabbed a career-high eight rebounds against Texas-Pan American (3/3)…recorded a season-high six assists against Nicholls State (11/19) and four on four other occasions.
 
HIGH SCHOOL: Was a four-year starter at Millennium High School for coach Mike Lopez…was the fifth-rated prospect in Arizona…McDonald’s All-American nominee...was a three-time all-state and first-team all-region selection…was named West Coast Top Junior and Senior…averaged 22.0 points and three assists per game as a senior…as a junior, led Class 5A in scoring with 24.0 points per game to go along with 5.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game…averaged 22.6 points and five assists per game as a sophomore…helped lead his team to a state championship as a freshman…played AAU basketball for the Arizona Magic and coach Dave Williams…averaged 12 points and six assists per game…was a two-time All-Arizona Academic First Team selection...chose HBU over Columbia, Yale, Lehigh, Hofstra, Cal State Northridge and Pepperdine.
