HOUSTON – Junior Curtis Jones tossed his first career complete-game shutout in the second game of the doubleheader and went 4-for-7 at the plate with four runs in the two games, as HBU swept Northeastern, 8-5 and 7-0, Saturday afternoon at Husky Field.

Jones (1-0) scattered five hits, struck out two and walked one as he threw exactly 100 pitches in the second game for HBU (6-1). At the plate, he went 2-for-3, was hit by a pitch and scored a pair of runs, extending his hitting streak to 15 games.

Junior catcher Samm Wiggins went 4-for-5, junior centerfielder Zach Nehrir went 2-for-5 with two runs, senior rightfielder Jordan McCoy was 2-for-5 with an RBI, senior first baseman Bradley Brown went 2-for-4 and senior first baseman Mike Chamberlain tripled and had three RBIs in the second game.

Brad Burcroff was the only Northeastern player to record multiple hits, going 2-for-3. Chris Carmain (0-1) took the loss, allowing 2 runs on 13 hits in 6.1 innings.

In the first game, McCoy went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run, while Jones went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs for HBU. Nehrir had a pair of RBIs, and junior leftfielder Thomas Clay scored twice and stole a base.

Burcroff went 2-fo-5, while Shane Allen went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Josh Treff doubled and scored twice and Gabe Levanti also came across for a pair of runs.

Junior righthander Taylor Wright (2-0) allowed five runs, two earned, on eight hits in seven innings to earn the win for HBU, then junior Josh Martinez worked two scoreless innings to notch his first career save.

Isaac Lippert (0-1)  took the loss for Northeastern, giving up four runs, one earned, on four hits in 6.1 innings of relief. Northeastern starter James Mulry lasted only 1.2 innings, allowing four runs on five hits.

In the second game Carmain allowed plenty of HBU batters to reach base, but HBU didn't score until the fifth when Jones, Brown and Nehrir strung together consecutive two-out singles to break a scoreless tie. HBU added another in the seventh when Brown singled and later came around to score on a two-out single to left by McCoy.

HBU broke the game wide open with a five-run eighth, capped by Chamberlain's bases-loaded triple into the rightfield corner.

In the first game, Northeastern took advantage of shaky HBU defense to take a 3-1 lead in the top of the second. HBU answered back with three runs in the bottom of the frame, getting RBIs from Clay and Jones and McCoy scoring on a wild pitch.

Northeastern took the lead back on an RBI double by Treff, followed by an RBI single by Allen in the fourth.

In the bottom of the fifth, Chamberlain laid down a two-out bunt single, went to second on the errant throw to first, then McCoy delivered a single up the middle to tie the game, 5-5.

Clay and senior shortstop CJ Jarvis led off the sixth with bunt singles out of the pitcher's reach toward second base, then Jones laid down a sacrifice bunt, but a throwing error on the play allowed him to reach and Clay and Jarvis to score the go-ahead runs. Nehrir added a sacrifice fly for the final tally.

Wright worked one more scorless inning, then Martinez closed the door on Northeastern in the eighth and ninth.

The Huskies return to action when they travel to face No. 21 Texas A&M Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park in College Station, Texas.
