HUNTSVILLE, Texas
– The HBU women's golf team recorded its first team victory of the season after the final two rounds of the SHSU Harold Funston Invitational Tuesday at the 6,943-yard, par-71 Raven's Nest Golf Club.

Sophomore Charlotte Hartshorn fired a 74 in the second round followed by an even-par 71 in the third, landing in second place with 218 to lead the Huskies.

"Charlotte is one of the most improved players coming from the offseason," head coach David Shuster said. "By improving her putting and adding lag on her swing in order to add distance to her stroke, she has developed a great edge against her opponents."

Senior Rachel Mulkey climbed 10 spots by shooting second and third rounds of 1-over par-72 and even-par 71, respectively.  Mulkey recorded her third-straight top-10 finish in as many starts, finishing with a 54-hole total of 219 to tie for third place.  Junior Aries Ramirez shot a 73 in the second round and a 72 in the third round, jumping 11 places to tie for seventh at 223.  Junior Brook Johnston totaled a 76 in the second round followed by a 78 in the third round.  Johnston finished with a total of 232 to tie for 14th.  Senior Caitlyn Cassity carded scores of 78 and 80 in the second and third rounds, respectively, tying for 16th place and only one stroke behind Johnston.  Freshman Susan Hagger played individually, firing a 74 in the second and followed with a score of 78 in the third.  Hagger finished in 19th place with 235.

HBU shot a 295 in the second round followed by a third round of 292 to claim the tournament title with a total of 889.

"I am thrilled with the girls' play today!" Shuster said. "To get that kind of play going, where every player finishes in the top-20 is something special."

Sam Houston State fell to second place with a third round of 300 to total 902.  Western Texas Community shot a 295 in the final round to keep third at 912.  Texas A&M Corpus Christi maintained fourth place after a third round of 308, totaling 938.  Texas-Pan American climbed into fifth place, shooting a third round of 303 total 940.

Western Texas CC's Devanshi Naik kept first with a final total of 217.  HBU's Charlotte Hartshorn climbed three spots to finish in second place with 218.  HBU's Rachel Mulkey and WTCC's Iben Hvass tied for third place with 219.  Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Ana Paredes ended the tournament in fifth place to total 221.
