HOUSTON -- Matt Perri led a 1-2 finish in the men's 1500 and Cassie Juarez broke her own school record in the javelin as HBU's men's and women's track and field teams opened the outdoor season Friday and Saturday at the 62nd TSU Relays.

Battling gusty winds, Perri, the 2013 Great West Conference indoor MVP, clocked 3:54.98 to win the metric mile ahead of Anthony Aguinaga, who was second at 3:55.91. Juarez was third in the javelin with a throw of 35.78/117-5 on Friday to increase her previous school record by more than three feet.

The Huskies picked up gold in the women's sprint medley relay Friday night, as Kenisa Haynes (200), Lakesha Cameron (200), Morgan Pressley (400) and Jessica Whitt (800) finished in 4:02.68, almost six seconds ahead of runners-up Sam Houston State.

Other top-three finishes for HBU included Jarrett Gilliam, who nabbed second in the men's hammer throw, and Jake Adkins, who was third in the shot put and discus. Brice Christian, Brandon Boyd, LaDarien Harris and Aguinaga collected bronze in the men's sprint medley, and Aguinaga was third in the 800. Hiba Kreidie finished third in the 800 and she later finished fifth behind Jessica Whitt in the 1500.

HBU's women placed fourth in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays, and freshman Garrison Fick, the GWC indoor newcomer of the year, took fourth in the triple jump.

Next up on the schedule for the Huskies is the Victor Lopez Rice Bayou Classic on March 22-23.
