FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. --
Brice Christian broke his own school record in the 400 Friday and
Matt Perri won his section of the 3000 meters Saturday at the Tyson Ivitational to lead a small contingent of HBU athletes in a final tune-up before hosting the Great West Conference indoor championships in two weeks.
Christian, who set the previous record of 50.16 at this meet last year, clocked 49.67 to move to third in the GWC rankings. He added a conference-leading 6.69/21-11.5 in the long jump.
Perri was an easy winner in the second heat of the 3K, finishing in 8:23.22 to take fifth overall and just miss his own school record of 8:21.91, set here in 2012.
In women's sprint action,
Brittane Gaines zipped to a GWC-best 7.57 in the 60 to place 26th, two spots away from the semifinals. Freshman
Lakesha Cameron matched her 2013 best with a 7.66, and
Skyla Williams notched a yearly best with her 7.75.
Morgan Pressley and
Jessica Whitt reinforced their league-leading marks in the long jump and mile, as Pressley spanned 5.69/18-8 to take 12th and Whitt ran 5:03.58 for 10th in the mile.
A season best in the men's 35-pound weight throw went to reigning GWC champion
Jake Adkins, who lofetd the ball 15.38/50-5.5.
HBU hosts the GWC championships at the University of Houston's Yeoman Fieldhouse on Feb. 23-24.
