HOUSTON – UT Arlington's Brandon Edwards, Reger Dowell and Lonnie McClanahan combined for 71 points as the Mavericks overcame an eight-point second-half deficit to turn back HBU, 80-70, Saturday night at Sharp Gym.

Tyler Russell made 8-of-13 from the field, including 4-of-6 from behind the arc to lead HBU (3-7) with 22 points and tied his career high with seven rebounds. Sophomore forward

Dauson Womack led the Huskies with nine rebounds.
Edwards led the Mavericks (4-6) with 31 points, 22 in the second half, to go along with seven rebounds and four steals. McClanahan posted a double-double for UTA with 22 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and three steals. Dowell scored 18, hitting 4-of-11 from 3-point range.
HBU shot 43 percent for the game, including 6-for-22 from 3-point range, while UTA shot 42 percent for the game, 8-for-25 from long distance. The Mavericks made 22-of-35 from the free-throw line, while the Huskies hit 20-of-23. HBU outrebounded UTA, 38-34, but the Mavericks forced the Huskies into 19 turnovers, while committing only eight.
Joyce started the scoring with a pair of free throws, but UTA took the lead on a 3-point by Outler. Junior center
Ricmonds Vilde scored HBU's next six points as the Huskies took a three-point lead, but Edwards tied it with a three. The Huskies went on a 7-0 run, started by Crayton's alley-oop lay-in from junior guard
Marcel Smith. Russell scored the Huskies' next seven in a row and they took their largest lead of the half after a pair of free throws by Vilde, 19-11, with 12:32 remaining.
The Mavericks fought back and tied the game, 22-22, on a jumper by McClanahan, but Crayton made a layup and Russell knocked down a jumper to put the Huskies back on top. UTA came back to tie it at 26 and the team traded shots until it was 30-30 with just over a minute left. Joyce scored the last three points of the half on free throws as the Huskies took a 33-30 lead into the break.
HBU shot 46 percent in the first half, but only 1-of-9 from behind the arc, while UTA shot 32 percent and made 4-of-15 from deep. Russell and Joyce each had nine to lead HBU, while Dowell scored 10 and Edwards had nine in the first half for UTA.
Smith nailed a three to open up the second-half, and Russell's 3-pointer at the 15:57 mark put the Huskies ahead, 46-38. An alley-oop to Edwards sparked an 8-0 run that tied the game, but Russell responded with another triple to put HBU back on top by three.
Edwards made a jumper, then Dowell hit a three to give UTA their first lead since it was 3-2 40 seconds into the game. Lewis tied it with a jumper, but Edwards put the Mavericks ahead by five with a jumper and a three. Crayton knocked down a pair of free throws, then Russell drilled a trey to knot it up, 58-58, with 8:35 left. UTA scored the next seven and never relinquished the lead again. HBU got to within three after a pair of Lewis free throws with 4:49 on the clock, but the Huskies missed their last eight field goals and couldn't get any closer.
The Huskies return to action when they travel to face DePaul Dec. 18 in Chicago.
