Box Score

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – With the score tied at 1-1, Rebekah Tovar's goal with just 1:10 remaining in regulation gave HBU women's soccer a 2-1 come-from-behind win at Incarnate Word Sunday afternoon from Bensom Stadium.

With the win, the Huskies have now won three of their last four matches and are in the thick of things for a Southland Conference playoff spot. With six matches remaining, five at home, the Huskies have nine points in conference play, along with three other teams, one point behind sixth-place Northwestern State. The top six teams reach the SLC playoffs.

The Cardinals struck first in this afternoon's contest, as Mikaela Noriega scored on a corner kick in the 18th minute. The ball was deflected and put into the back of the net.

The Huskies tied the match at one as Molly Missimer scored at the 26th minute. Tovar connected on Missimer, who scored from 15 yards out.

That was all the scoring in the remainder of the half as each goalkeeper made one save in the final 19 minutes.

Shots were even at seven apiece in the first half. HBU's Patty Walrath made one save, while Incarnate Word's Heather Kowalik made three. The Cardinals doubled up the Huskies in corner kicks, 4-2.

Incarnate Word controlled play for most of the second half, outshooting the Huskies 6-2 and having four corner kicks to HBU's one. But the Huskies converted on the one thing that mattered the most, as Tovar's heroics came shortly after two consecutive corner kick attempts by the Cardinals. Elizabeth Adams assisted on the goal, giving her the first point of her collegiate career.

Walrath earned the win in goal, improving her record to 3-2-0 as she made three saves. Kowalik dropped to 9-5-0, as she also made three saves.

HBU (4-8-1 overall, 3-3-0 SLC) begins a five-match home stand Friday against Oral Roberts at 5 pm at Sorrels Field.
