PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – On Sunday evening at Lady Panther Soccer Field, the HCU women's soccer team trailed at the half but scored three goals in the final 35 minutes of the game finish out non-conference play with a 3-1 win.
Both teams had early attempts miss off target but the first real scoring chance came in the 16th minute when Ashanti Hall collected a loose ball in the box that escaped a jumble of players and was able to score to the left side of the goal for Prairie View (0-7-1). The rest of the first half was manageable for both sides, defensively, with just three total shots on goal until halftime.
The Huskies (4-3-2) stepped up the pressure in the second half and it paid off just over 10 minutes in. Ella Remy delivered a perfect cross to the back post where Isabella Dillow was waiting to drive a header down to the bottom left and into the net to even the score, 1-1. Isabella Alamo, Dillow and Remy all had chances stopped as the second half wore on before Paisley Barela received a pass at the top of the 18-yard box from Madison Stormberg before firing through a crowd and blasting a goal just inside the right post in the 79th minute. The sophomore made it a brace less than two minutes later as she was in the right place at the right time to knock in a rebound off a shot by Dillow.
HCU put 10 of 20 shot attempts on target in the win while limiting the hosts to just seven total shots with three on goal. Barela's brace gives her three goals for the season while Dillow upped her total to four.
The Huskies begin Southland Conference play this coming Thursday, Sept. 17, against the Nicholls Colonels at Sorrels Field at 7:00 p.m.
