HOUSTON – HCU women's soccer fell behind 1-0 before scoring three unanswered goals and the Huskies evened their record with a 3-1 Senior Night win over Southern on Friday at Sorrels Field.
HCU (3-3-2) nearly took a lead in the 10th minute when Isabella Dillow fired a shot from distance that the Southern (0-5-0) goalkeeper mishandled but recovered and stopped before it reached the goal line. The Lady Jaguars took a 1-0 lead at the 32:07 mark when a misplayed ball on the HCU back line went over Emmy McKeon's head and into the net for an own goal. The Huskies pulled even seven minutes later on a Jasmine Diaz free kick from more than 30 yards out that went in to the top right corner off fingertips of the keeper.
The Huskies' gained the lead in the 60th minute. Isabella Alamo played a ball to Dillow who quickly hit the brakes and fired to the bottom left corner for her third goal of the season. The third goal of the night came on a 73rd-minute penalty kick off the foot of Ella Remy.
HCU doubled up the visitors in shots, 17-8, and put seven shots on goal while no allowing Southern a single shot on target. Diaz and Remy's goals were their first of the season while Alamo's assist was her third.
HCU travels to Prairie View, Texas next for a Sunday, Sept. 13, matchup against the Prairie View A&M Panthers at 6:00 p.m. for the team's final non-conference game of the season.
