Sophomore Preston Stanley tied for 18th at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invite to lead Huskies
ERIE, Co. – Houston Baptist shot its lowest team round of the tournament with a 286 to finish 11th out of a field of 14 teams at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invite Tuesday at the par-72 Colorado National Golf Club.
 
Sophomore Preston Stanley closed with a 4-under par 68 after shooting 70 in the first round and 75 in the second, to tie for 18th at 213. Sophomore Jeffrey Merrell shot a 2-under par 70 in his third round after carding a 78 in round one and a 69 in round two to finish tied for 32nd at 217. Sophomore Brandon Wilhide shot a 75, after shooting 72 and 76, to tie for 58th with teammate Michael Durio at 223. Junior Trey Cassity fired a third round 76 and tied for 62nd at 224, after shooting 72 and 76 in the first and second rounds.
 
Oregon State claimed the title with a score of 843, two strokes ahead of Colorado and four strokes ahead of Colorado State. Missouri –Kansas City shot 854 to finish fourth, while Kansas and UT-Arlington tied for fifth at 858. HBU finished with a three-round team score of 870.
 
Colorado State's Kirby Pettitt won the individual title with a score of 14-under par 202, finishing three strokes ahead of Oregon State's Brian Jung and five strokes ahead of Colorado's Derek Fribbs.
 
The Huskies return to action at the Jim Rivers Invitational hosted by Louisiana Tech October 1-2 at the Square Creek Country Club in Ruston, La.
