AUSTIN/SAN ANTONIO -- On the same day she received Great West Conference women's track athlete of the week honors for her exploits the previous weekend, HBU's Brittane Gaines went one step better Friday as she broke Cindee Wright's school record in the 100-meter dash with an 11.71 to win her heat at the 85th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.

Gaines exploded from the blocks and was never challenged as she ended up 23rd overall in a field of almost 100 of the nation's top collegiate sprinters. She also ran the opening leg on the Huskies' 4x100 relay that clocked 47.25, teaming up with Joslyn Cooper, Tramisha McGrew and Skyla Williams. In the 4x400, HBU ran a 3:49.90 with a team of Sharonda Bryant, Zelda Abadom, Morgan Pressley and McGrew.

Later in the day in San Antonio, the Huskies saw three more school records fall at the Trinity Tiger Relays.

Jade Penick finished second in the women's hammer throw with a toss of 47.80/156-10 to add five inches to the previous record, set last year by Zakia Tillis. Penick also took fourth in the shot put and sixth in the discus.

In the men's 110-meter hurdles, Gabe O'Neale was second at 14.89, .19 better than the old HBU standard of 15.08 by Bryan Richardson in 2010. Another hurdles record went to Candace Montgomery in the women's 400H, where she trimmed .02 off her own record with a 63.36 to place third.

Jessica Whitt led a 1-2 HBU finish in the women's 1500, clocking a season-best 4:42.21 to finish ahead of teammate Hiba Kreidie. Those two also went 4-5 in the 800, with Jamie Whitt in sixth.

Gold went to the men's 4x100 squad of Junior Malave, LaDarien Harris, Brandon Boyd and Brice Christian, as they crossed the line at 42.24 for a 2012 best. Christian added a season-best 6.94w/22-9.25w to place second in the long jump and was sixth in the 400.

Boyd notched a season best in the 200 at 21.87, while Harris improved to 49.45 in the 400 to finish seventh. Season bests were turned in by Anthony Aguinaga in the 800 (1:54.86-5th) and the 4x400 team of Darryl McCullum, David Hicks, Harris and Michael Roberts (3:18.69-2nd).

Other field event action had Jake Adkins placing second in the discus, third in the shot, and fourth in the javelin, and Trey Rodriguez taking second in the hammer.

HBU returns to the track on April 14 at the Texas Invitational in Austin.
