HOUSTON – Utah Valley scored two second-half goals and kept HBU scoreless as UVU won the battle for first place in the conference, 2-0, Saturday night at Sorrels Field.
HBU controlled play in the first half and up until the Wolverines' first goal in the second half. HBU had 11 first-half shots and outshot the Wolverines, 4-3 in shots on goal.
Natalie Hager's shot in the 19th minute hit the crossbar. UVU goalkeeper Lauren Sack made a fantastic diving stop to her right on a
Taylor Gibson shot in the 21st minute.
Utah Valley broke the scoreless stalemate in the 58th minute, as Regan Benson scored assisted by Lexi Robison. Robison sent a forward pass up the right side to Benson, who sent a beautiful shot to HBU keeper
Shelby Horn. Horn dove to her right, but the shot hit the inside of the far post and into the net.
That goal shifted the momentum to the Wolverines, who kept the pressure. While no shots on goal, the Wolverines had five shot attempts in a span of 10 minutes, keeping the Huskies on their toes.
UVU got an insurance goal as Robison scored unassisted in the 76th minute. Her initial shot was blocked by a Husky defender, went right back to Robison, who sent a shot that went just under the crossbar.
The shots were 15-all at the end of the match, as Utah Valley outshot HBU 10-4 in the second half. Corner kicks were 5-4 in favor of HBU.
Rebecca Jardon and
Molly Missimer led HBU with two shots on goal, while Missimer's three shot attempts were tops for the team.
