CHOUDRANT, La. – Houston Baptist University shot a final round 302 and finished with a three day team score of 886 to tie for seventh place Tuesday at the ULM Jim Rivers Intercollegiate at the Squire Creek Country Club.
Sophomore Preston Stanley tied for 11th place after posting a third-round score of 76 to finish with a 54 hole total of 218. Sophomore
Brandon Wilhide also carded a final round 76 to finish tied for 18
th at 221. Sophomore
Andy Ariens posted the low round of the day for the Huskies with a 73, and finished tied for 31
st place at 225. Freshman
Michael Durio shot a final-round 77 to finish tied for 38
th, while sophomore
Jeffrey Merrell fired a final-round 81 to finish tied for 46
th at 231.
Central Arkansas won the tournament with a team score of 869, four strokes ahead of Southern Mississippi who finished second, and seven strokes of tournament host Louisiana Tech, who finished third at 876. HBU tied for seventh place with UMKC at 886, six strokes ahead of Rice, who finished in ninth place at 892.
Host Louisiana Tech's Travis Wilmore won the tournament individually with a three day score of 206, edging Central Arkansas' Pep Angels by one stroke, who finished alone in second place.
The Huskies return to action Oct. 14-16 when they travel to San Antonio to compete in the Lone Star Invitational at the Hyatt Hill Country Golf Course. The tournament will be hosted by UTSA.
