SAN ANTONIO – Houston Baptist University shot their lowest round of the tournament, a team score of 297 to finish in 13th place after the final round of the UTSA Lone Star Invitational Monday at the par-72 Hyatt Hill Country Resort Golf Club.
Sophomore Brandon Wilhide shot a 1-under par 71 to conclude his tournament tied for 33rd place at 225. Sophomore
Andy Ariens also bounced back with a strong final round as he also shot in the red with a 2-under par 70 to finish tied for 45
th at 229. Freshman
Michael Durio fired a final round 77 to finish tied for 48
th place at 230. Sophomore
Preston Stanley carded a 79 to finish tied for 54
th place at 233. Sophomore
Jeffrey Merrell withdrew from the third round with an illness that affected much of the field.
HBU freshman Isaiah Huerta, who was competing in the tournament individually, fired a final round 77 and finished tied for 60th place at 234.
Houston was crowned champions of the tournament, posting a final round team score of 275 and a 54-hole team score of 866, four strokes ahead of North Texas, 15 strokes ahead of Denver who finished in third at 881, and 19 strokes ahead of Central Arkansas who finished in fourth place.
North Texas' Rodolfo Cazaubon took home individual champion honors, firing a final round 74 to win the tournament with a 3-day score of 212. Four players finished two strokes behind Cazaubon at 214 to finish tied for second.
HBU returns to the links Oct. 22-23 when they host the HBU Husky Invitational at Quail Valley Golf Club in Missouri City, Texas.
