SAN ANTONIO – Houston Baptist University shot a team score of 314 to slip back to 14th place after the second round of the UTSA Lone Star Invitational Monday at the par-72 Hyatt Hill Country Resort Golf Club.
Freshman Michael Durio and sophomore Brandon Wilhide were the only members of the Huskies team to break 80 in the second round, as Durio shot a 79 and is tied for 46th in the standings. Wilhide fired a team-low 75 Monday and is tied for 51
st place with fellow Husky sophomore
Preston Stanley, who followed up his first round 74 with a second round 80. Sophomore
Jeffrey Merrell shot a second round 80 as well, and is tied for 66
th at 158. Sophomore
Andy Ariens is tied for 72
nd at 159 after posting an 83 in his second round.
North Texas leads the tournament at 579 after posting a team score of 295 in its second round, three strokes ahead of Denver University and six strokes ahead of Central Arkansas who is in third. UTSA, the tournament host, is in fourth place at 589 and the University of Houston rounds out the top five with a 36-hole team score of 591. HBU is two strokes ahead of Illinois State, and six strokes behind New Mexico State for 13th place.
North Texas' Rodolfo Cazaubon is the leader in the clubhouse after posting a 2-under par 70 and is a combined 6-under par after the first two rounds of the tournament. Cazaubon is four strokes ahead of Central Arkansas' Pep Angels who stands alone in second place at 142. Denver's Jordan Burgess and SFA's Mitchell McLeroy are both tied for third at 143.
The tournament concludes with a single round Tuesday.
