HOUSTON -- Indoor school records fell to freshman
Michael Roberts in the men's high jump and the women's distance medley relay, and a quintet of Huskies recorded top-three finishes Friday as HBU's track and field teams opened the 2012 indoor season at Houston's Len Hilton Memorial meet at Yeoman Field House.
Roberts scaled 1.94 meters/6-4.25 to add a quarter-inch to the previous record, set in 2011 by
Jonathan Staples.
Hiba Kreidie anchored the Huskies' DMR to a runner-up spot and a school record 12:35.49 by outkicking the Houston anchor leg in the final 200 of the mile. Kreidie, who had a superb 5:10.12 lifetime best to take eighth in the open mile, teamed up with
Jessica Whitt,
Shanae Lawrence and
Jamie Whitt to finish just behind the winning Texas quartet.
Defending Great West Conference shot out champion
Jake Adkins added almost seven feet to his lifetime best in the 35-pound weight throw, placing third at 16.50m/54-1.25, less than four inches off the HBU record. GWC outdoor 100-meter hurdles gold medalist
Amber Goodson narrowly missed her own school record in the 60H with an 8.88 clocking in the prelims, and came back to run 8.93 in the finals to finish as the second collegian.
The Huskies' highest finish came in the women's distance medley relay, where

GWC cross country champ
Matt Perri nabbed bronze in the mile with a solid 4:16.11, and came back to anchor the Huskies to bronze in the distance medley with a 4:17.7 mile carry. Defending conference indoor 5000 champion
Maximo Mendoza rolled to a 15:12.94 to take third, and freshman
Brice Christian was third in the 400. Christian returned to help the Huskies to a comfortable win in their heat of the men's 4x400.
Senior
Tramisha McGrew anchored the women's 4x400 to a 4:00.48 to take the measure of Houston and Rice as the squad placed fifth overall after winning its heat.
HBU returns to UH Jan. 27-28 for the Houston Indoor Invitational.
