Nacogdoches, TX – HCU traveled to SFA for the Carl Kight Collegiate Invitational, and continued to make strides on the outdoor season.
In the field events, freshman
Julius Malone followed up his phenomenal performance last week with a second-place finish in the men's high jump, clearing 2.03m/6-8. In the same event, fellow freshman
Adryan Schuetz cleared a height of 1.93m/6-4, good enough for a fourth-place finish.
In the women's triple jump,
Layloni Watson leaped to yet another first overall finish, with a jump of 12.15m/39-10.5.
Chimaoge Nwokedi claimed second overall in the women's high jump, clearing a height of 1.68m/5-6. After breaking the discus school record last week, Sophomore
Storm Evans broke the record yet again, throwing the disc 49.76m/163-03, earning second overall in the event. Evans also took home a third-place finish in the shot put as well, with a throw of 12.73m/41-9.25.
Samantha Rabius threw a new PR in the javelin, with a toss of 38.83m/127-04.
On the track, SJ Marais broke a nine-year old school record in the men's 100m, clocking a time of 10.36 and claiming a first-place finish. In the men's 100m hurdles,
Ashton Munoz-Nieves ran a time of 14.38 in the prelims to qualify for the finals, and followed that up with a time of 13.94, an effort good enough for a new PR and a first-place finish. Freshman
Rayhan Mourtada made his collegiate debut in the 400m hurdles and earned a new PR and second overall.
The HCU Huskies will return to competition Apr. 9 – Apr. 11 in College Station for the Texas A&M 44 Farms Team Invitational.
