CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The HBU softball team lost a doubleheader to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Tuesday afternoon, 4-2 and 4-0.

In game one, HBU scored twice in the top of the first, but the Islanders scored four unanswered.

In the top of the first, after a lead-off single by Daniella Rodarte, Mollye Mlcak hit a two-run home run to give the Huskies a 2-0 lead.

TAMUCC got one of the runs back in the bottom of the third, Laura Phillips was hit by a pitch and was substituted by Sandy Schumann as a pinch runner. Schumann eventually scored on a single by Hannah Schwartz. With the bases loaded and only one out, starter Jammie Weidert got a fielder's choice at home and a strikeout to end the threat.

TAMUCC scored three times in the bottom of the fifth to give the Islanders some breathing room.
Mlcak led the Huskies, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored. Weidert took the loss, allowing 10 hits, three earned runs while striking out four.

Schwartz went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Islanders. Jordan Trujillo, who was named Southland Pitcher of the Week, earned the win, allowing six hits, two earned runs and two walks while striking out four.

The Islanders scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning in game two. After two infield singles, Caley Jeter hit a two-run single.

The Islanders added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth, as Schwartz hit a lead-off triple and scored on a single up the middle by Kacie Smith.

The Huskies were held to just two hits, as Mlcak went 1-for-2 and Sara Corcoran went 1-for-1 with two walks. Kendall Stiefel took the loss, allowing eight hits, four earned runs and one walk while striking out six.

Schwartz went 3-for-3 with two runs scored for TAMUCC. Vianca Pesina earned the win, pitching five innings and allowing two hits and one walk while striking out four.

HBU (9-8) will host Prairie View A&M in a doubleheader at Husky Field on Thursday, March 10, beginning at 2 pm.
