HOUSTON – The HBU softball team, fresh off a split at Sam Houston State on Wednesday, will conclude their road trip with a three-game series at UTEP, beginning Saturday afternoon. First pitch of Saturday's doubleheader begins at 4 pm CST while game three will be held Sunday at 2 pm CST.
This will be the first-ever meeting between the Huskies and Miners.
HBU (2-3) won game one against SHU, 9-1, in six innings behind another strong pitching performance by
Jammie Weidert. She allowed five hits, one earned run, did not walk a batter and struck out seven in six innings.

Kaitlin Southerland and
Callie Herrington each had two RBI. SHSU bested HBU, 9-5, in game two to get the split. The Bearkats scored all nine runs in the first two innings, including a seven-spot in the bottom of the second.
Kendall Stiefel allowed all nine runs – five earned – while allowing seven hits, three walks and striking out one in two innings.
Beth Evans mowed down SHSU in four innings, allowing three hits and striking out five. Herrington led the Huskies, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Herrington and Southerland are each tied for the team lead in batting, as they are each hitting .500. Herrington leads the team with eight hits and Southerland is second with seven. Southerland leads the squad with two home runs and is tied for the lead with
Sara Corcoran, who have six RBI each.
In the circle, Weidert, who was named Great West Conference Pitcher of the Week earlier this week, is 2-0 with a 0.75 ERA. She has allowed 10 hits and just one walk while striking out 11.
UTEP (3-3) snapped a three-game losing streak on Feb. 13, defeating North Dakota, 8-5, to conclude the Northern Iowa Dome Invitational. Kayleigh Walts went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one run scored for the Miners. Courtney Auger earned the victory, pitching 4.1 innings and allowing four hits, four runs – three earned – and five walks while striking out two.
Chelsea Troupe leads the Miners with a .500 batting average, as both she and Kia Moore have seven hits. Troupe, Walts and Courtney Ware have a home run apiece and Walts leads the team with seven RBI.
In the circle, Auger leads the team with a 4.32 ERA, as she has a 2-1 record, has walked 19 batters and struck out 13.
