Nacogdoches, TX – After a stunning 2026 outdoor season, the HCU Huskies are looking to make a statement at the Southland Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships on May 14 – May 16 at SFA, with several Huskies in position to score points at the meet.
On the track,
SJ Marais has shined this season, posting a 10.34 in the men's 100m, which is sixth best in the conference, while also posting a conference-leading 13.91 in the 100m hurdles. Alongside him,
Ashton Munoz-Nieves owns the third best time in the conference in the 100m hurdles at 13.94. Freshman
Rayhan Mourtada impressed in his first collegiate outdoor season, running the 400m hurdles in a time of 51.27, currently the fourth best time in the conference and 15
th in the region. The 4x100m relay team of
Ashton Munoz-Nieves,
Humza Baig,
Aidan Bates, and
SJ Marais ranks fifth in the conference with a time of 40.53, a time that also broke a school record this season.
Antoine Tshimanga rounds out the men on the track, with a seventh-best 800m time in the conference of 1:50.09.
In the men's field events, Joshua Gillis-Harry owns the best mark in the conference and sixth best in the region in the triple jump, with a jump of 15.81m/51-10.5. In the high jump,
Julius Malone also owns the top conference mark, clearing a height of 2.17m/7-1.5. This mark is also tied for fourth in the region.
On the women's side, the duo of Angela Hindes (1.72m/5-7.75) and
Chimaoge Nwokedi (1.68m/5-6) hold the third and seventh best marks in the high jump. Hindes' jump also ranks 16
th in the region. After winning a conference title in the triple jump this indoor season, Layloni Watson is looking to take home more hardware, ranking second in the conference and 13
th in the region in the triple jump with a jump of 12.66m/41-6.5, while also ranking seventh in the conference in the long jump, jumping 5.81m/19-0.75. After breaking the school record twice this season in the women's discus throw,
Storm Evans' throw of 49.76m/163-3 currently sits fifth in the conference.
