HOUSTON – HCU track & field returned to the Carl Lewis International Complex for the UH Cameron Burrell Invitational and saw lots of success in both the field events and distance events.
After an outstanding 2025 season, Josh Gillis-Harry made his outdoor season debut in the men's triple jump and leaped to a new PR and a first-place finish with a jump of 15.81m/51-10.50. In the same event,
Nysir Johnson also earned a new PR and a third-place finish with a jump of 14.24m/46-8.75. Teammates
Julius Malone and
Kade Stevens both tied for fourth in the high jump, clearing a height of 2.01m/6.7. The mark is also a new PR for Stevens.
In the women's high jump, Angela Hindes cleared a height of 1.58m/5-2.25, good enough for first overall in the event. The duo of
Anouk Verdaasdonk and
Madison Brown-Adams claimed a fourth and fifth-place finish in the long jump, with jumps of 5.36m/17-7 and 5.31m/17-5.
Storm Evans put together another strong meet, bringing home two fourth-place finishes in both the women's shot put and discus, including a PR in the shot put, throwing for distances of 13.45m/44-1.50 and 46.67m/153-1. Her teammate
Arianna Harris earned a new PR in the discus, with a throw of 36.73m/120.6. To close out the field events,
Samantha Rabius threw the javelin a distance of 28.14m/92-4, which earned her second overall.
On the track, freshman
Gavin Almaguer earned a third-place finish in the men's 1500m with a time of 4:13.09.
In the women's 800m, Jazlynn Estrada ran a time of 2:17.97, enough for a second-place finish and a new PR in the event.
The HCU Huskies will look to close out the season before the Southland Conference Championships on Saturday, May 2 at the Texas A&M Alumni Muster in College Station.
